Honey Harvest
Posted by

A friend of my dad's recently started keeping bees for honey. He has two hives, and yesterday we were able to watch him harvest honey. It was very interesting and fun!

Our host shows us the lid from the first hive
Luke and Tag were safe and sound in their bee suits!

...the pond! We were supposed to wear long sleeves and pants, and Wes must have gotten too hot. He took a dip to cool off.
You can't see all the bees flying around in these pictures, but there were a lot of them. This hive housed about 30,000.
Tag was fearless
In the garage, they scraped the layer of wax off the honeycomb in preparation to extract the honey.
Four honeycombs per spinning session
They let the boys help spin out the honey
Mmm...honey. It pours out and is filtered into a bucket. From 11 honeycombs, they extracted about 2 1/2 gallons of honey!

Guess Who Came to Dinner

The title of my previous post suits this one too. Last night we had the wonderful opportunity of spending an evening with Elders Bednar and Snow. Who? click here or here.
Wes was quite taken with these two, and vice-versa. He was all smiles when picture time came.

Learning how to do "knucks".
After Tag's invitation, "Do you want to sit here in this chair?"
One last practice before they left.
Tag wins for best quote of the night: "Don't let the 'postles' eat before I wash my hands!"
